We’re already warming up for the merry month of May on the last weekend of April, because:
May makes everything newit makes the soul fresh and free
(Hermann Adam von Kamp)
This also applies to this long weekend – thanks to the nationwide public holiday! – in Berlin, as many seasons are about to begin.
The Holzmarkt is opening
The construction work has finished and we are looking forward to the opening of Holzmarkt 25. In the spirit of the legendary Bar 25, directly on the banks of the River Spree and not far from Jannowitzbrücke, a unique combination of a residential and leisure centre has come into being. The “village” is unparalleled: exhibitions are taking place in the Säälchen Venue, at the Fame/Katerschmaus restaurant you can lay the culinary foundations for a carefree party night in the Kater Blau nightclub, and even yoga and language courses are offered on site.
May Day will be celebrated with the motto “We’re having a ball and staying pink”. In the “Pampa” you can observe acts such as Die Gäng (ska-style children’s songs from Berlin), listen to the chilled sounds of Mira & Chris Schwarzwälder (Kater Blau) or watch the Klebebande tape artists at work.

Great expectations at the Badeschiff
Berlin’s Badeschiff is optimistically looking ahead to the last weekend of April as the pool season is actually expected to start then. We wish them all the best! If the weather plays along, this event will certainly be a must on this action-packed weekend.

Gallery Weekend in Berlin
Things kick off on Friday with the new edition of Gallery Weekend. Not only connoisseurs of the international art scene will have a great time here. The selection of participating galleries is so diverse that we can all feel like freshly qualified University of the Arts graduates even without having studied art or looking like one. artnet has compiled a list of the shows and events most worth seeing during Gallery Weekend for you.

Our daily bread
Our daily bread is worthy of its own festival at Markthalle Neun: BrotZeit. From pumpernickel to piadina – behind each type of bread there is pure passion and much experience. Real bakers will present their hand-crafted creations and rare specialities. You can learn in workshops how good bread is made and children and adults can try their hand at baking in the workshop kitchen too.

When the cherry blossoms bloom along the Berlin Wall Trails, it is high time for the wonderful Hanami Festival. Where Germany was previously divided, now blooms the longest cherry blossom boulevard in Brandenburg. Along the former border strip, between Teltow and Lichterfelde, the environmental initiative Teltower Platte is organising the annual Japanese cherry blossom festival on Sunday. A tip: You can find the most beautiful spring photos from Berlin on Instagram at Hashtag #BerlinBlossom.
